Love this post as a member of that small Venn diagram overlap "watch list." This is the reason I've followed your work through the different stages over that last 10+ years. Unapologetic authentically being yourself. That's your personal monopoly - being you.

With age, I've embraced and leaned into being the square peg in many settings. I used to wonder why some people lose their filters as they get older. Now I know it's being more comfortable with ourselves and giving less f**ks about what people think of us.

Haha, I've never thought of it that way but I think it's right on. It's not a loss of filters. It's a decision to disregard dumb social conventions.

You can't please everyone, might as well please yourself. Readers that like your work, like it because it's you, not some formatted outline.

That's what I'm counting on!

Love this. Striving to embrace my own unique weirdness right now, while I’m going through a major life change. Suitable time: everything is thrown into the air, why not sort things now so that they land in a new configuration?

Here’s hoping I don’t break things that I want to keep! ;-)

The world would be a far more interesting and enjoyable place if we each channelled our own inner Bob Schneider...

I sure hope Bobby is paying attention to this.

Preach! I'd long burned out of all the must-dos to build an audience. I hate social media and don't do much of it either. Authors who got big can't be out in the world like they used to, writing in coffee shops, and observing the strange and unusual. Keep being you, inspiring the rest of us.

I think we authors have to get pretty huge to be bothered in public, but I'm in it for the creative freedom! (Although admittedly, it'd be hard to turn away if readers were flocking to me by the millions and I actually had a choice in the matter.)

Heard. We must commune with our folks at some point, just not while actively in the zone.

Yes. So much yes. I, too, write every genre. First I wrote about a medical doctor who solves murders, then I started giving her supernatural talents, and today I launched a Kickstarter for Cthulhu's Duo, where she takes on Cthulhu. Because why not.

I love to break the rules, then take a beating on sales.

Creatively fantastic, financially depressing, but I'm not going to stop. You and Bob won't stop either.

Have you checked out Becca Syme? She talks about the trailblazer archetype. I took the Clifton Strengths and got #1 ideation, and suspect you would too. It means we have to innovate or die.

I love your writing, and selfishly love when you use your gift to break down on what it means to be so authentically yourself that most of the world has no idea what to do with you.

Huge thanks.

Haha, this is a wonderful comment ... right down to "Creatively fantastic, financially depressing, but I'm not going to stop." Sounds exactly right.
