That's a really good point. I have incorporated religious beliefs into my worldbuilding and characterization, but never small superstitions. I'm not sure why I've never thought of that, but it does make the characters feel just a little more real, doesn't it?

I notice this in movies and TV more than in books, maybe because those are media that are paced-out for you as opposed to books, where scenes might move quickly or slowly depending on the reader. I'll see something that I can only describe as "not strictly necessary." Minutes are precious in film, so it's always interesting to me when the director takes time to show something that isn't really necessary to the plot. And yet, those "unnecessary minutes" (maybe to show something like a superstition or a habit) are often what make the very best scenes and films!

Yeah, when I did this with my characters, it not only added more depth but the superstition actually forever changed the story of the novel snd other stories set in that world
